Dozens of Lidl stores close due to strike

More than a hundred Belgian Lidl stores are closed today due to a strike. With the strike, the unions protest against the high workload and the planned end to a reinforcement scheme.

Reconciliation failed

The immediate reason for the strike was a failed reconciliation attempt earlier this week, local newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen reports. The socialist trade union BBTK is furious that management wants to end a scheme that allowed for reinforcements.

It is not yet clear how many stores are closed exactly, as several courses have all come up with different number. However, it now seems to be clear that the number is over one hundred, spread all over the country.
