Met die investering van drie miljard euro zet Meta zich schrap voor de strijd met onder andere <strong>Apple<\/strong> en <strong>Google<\/strong>, die mikken op een toekomst waarin brillen de nieuwe smartphones worden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">AI op onze neus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In ruil voor de investering verwerft het moederbedrijf van Facebook <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-07-08\/meta-invests-3-5-billion-in-essilorluxottica-in-ai-glasses-push\" target=\"_blank\">iets minder dan&nbsp;3% van de aandelen van de Frans-Italiaanse brillengigant<\/a>. Meta zou wel al overwegen zijn belang nog verder uit te breiden tot&nbsp;5%, meldt persbureau Bloomberg op basis van ingewijden. Concrete plannen zijn er weliswaar nog niet, en beide partijen weigeren voorlopig commentaar te geven op de deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De samenwerking tussen Meta en EssilorLuxottica is niet nieuw. Sinds&nbsp;2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.retaildetail.be\/nl\/news\/schoonheid-verzorging\/essilorluxottica-gaat-voor-slimme-brillen-en-meer-winst\/\" target=\"_blank\">werken de twee bedrijven samen aan slimme brillen<\/a>, zoals de Ray-Ban Stories en de opvolger daarvan die de AI-assistent van Meta ondersteunt. Vorige maand breidden ze het assortiment uit met een slimme bril onder het sportieve Oakley-label, eveneens een merk van EssilorLuxottica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Volgens Bloomberg sluit de investering aan bij de bredere AI-strategie van Meta, waarin slimme brillen moeten uitgroeien tot een sleuteltechnologie. Topman Mark Zuckerberg zei eerder tegen technologieplatform The Verge: \u201cIk denk niet dat we onze telefoons binnenkort helemaal achter ons zullen laten, maar er tekent zich een vrij duidelijke weg af <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8dVba_xm4MQ\" target=\"_blank\">waarin we onze bril voor steeds meer dingen zullen gebruiken<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Race om modieuze wearables<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Vorige maand raakte bekend dat ook concurrent Google <a href=\"https:\/\/www.retaildetail.be\/nl\/news\/schoonheid-verzorging\/google-investeert-in-gentle-monster-voor-modieuze-wearables\/\" target=\"_blank\">zich op de markt van de slimme brillen stort<\/a>. De zoekgigant nam een belang in het Zuid-Koreaanse brillenmerk <strong>Gentle Monster<\/strong>, dat bekendstaat om zijn designbrillen met futuristische uitstraling. Financi\u00eble details over die investering zijn niet publiek, maar Google noemt het \u201ceen strategische zet om AI in het dagelijks leven te integreren via stijlvolle wearables.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De keuze van Meta voor EssilorLuxottica past in datzelfde plaatje. Met bekende merken als Ray-Ban, Oakley en Persol beschikt de brillenreus over een wereldwijd distributienetwerk \u00e9n designexpertise, terwijl Meta de technologische component aanlevert. Beide partijen hopen zo het draagvlak voor slimme brillen te verbreden van techliefhebbers naar het bredere publiek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voor Meta betekent het minderheidsbelang bovendien een verankering in Europa. EssilorLuxottica, met hoofdkantoren in Parijs en Milaan, is een van de weinige Europese spelers met wereldwijde impact in de brillenindustrie.
