Zo bleek uit het onderzoek\u00a0dat filet van kippen met vrije uitloop beter scoorde dan hetzelfde product met een bio-label, terwijl de uitloop van de dieren maar een klein deel uitmaakt van hoe biologisch een product is.<\/p>\n<p>\nOnderzoekster Van Loo wijt dit aan een gebrek aan concrete beeldvorming bij het algemene bio-label. \u201cSlechts een vijfde van de ondervraagden kon correct antwoorden op een reeks vragen over wat biologisch voedsel precies inhoudt. De uitloop-claims zoals \u2018(boeren)scharrel met uitloop\u2019 of \u2018boerenscharrel met vrije uitloop\u2019 geven consumenten daarentegen wel een concreet beeld van hoe een bepaald product tot stand is gekomen: kippen die vrij kunnen rondlopen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Kansen voor producenten<\/h2>\n<p>Volgens Van Loo schept dit ook kansen. \u201cProducenten die willen inzetten op duurzaamheid zonder aan alle voorwaarden voor het bio-label te voldoen, zullen ook goed scoren\u201d, aldus de onderzoekster. \u201cWat telt is dat de consument duidelijk kan zien hoe de producent zich inzet voor bijvoorbeeld dierenwelzijn of ethische handel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nDe inzet voor duurzaamheid wordt overigens gewaardeerd door de consument. Maar liefst een derde van de bevraagden gaf aan dat duurzaamheid een belangrijke rol speelde bij de keuze van hun voedingsproducten.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Bio is vaak te duur<\/h2>\n<p>De Vlaamse consument is dan ook bereid om iets extra te betalen voor de duurzaamheid. Toch vindt hij de huidige prijs van de biologische producten vaak te hoog. Voor biologische yoghurt zou hij tot 22% extra willen neertellen, maar dit is minder dan het huidige prijsverschil tussen klassieke yoghurt en hetzelfde product met een bio-label.<\/p>\n<p>\nVan Loo pleit ook voor een opname van duurzame voeding in de voedingsdriehoek. Duitsland en Zweden hebben op dit vlak al stappen gezet en ook Engeland en Nederland maken er werk van om hun voedingsrichtlijnen aan te passen.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Om mensen beter te informeren over de meerwaarde van biologische voeding voert de sectororganisatie BioForum Vlaanderen bovendien vanaf nu heel het jaar door <a href=\"http:\/\/biomijnnatuur.be\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">campagne onder de naam &#8216;Bio Mijn Natuur&#8217;<\/a>. Die biocampagne wordt\u00a0alvast ondersteund door onder andere <strong>Delhaize <\/strong>en <strong>BioPlanet<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>en focust telkens\u00a0op het verschil voor \u00e9\u00e9n specifieke productgroep.
