Volgens het nieuwe YouGov rapport <em>\u201cFrom headline to household: How conflict in the Middle East brings a new cost shock to seasoned shoppers<\/em><em>\u200b<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em> verwacht 7 op de 10 Europeanen dat het conflict een grote impact zal hebben op hun kosten van levensonderhoud. Maar in tegenstelling tot de paniekreacties tijdens de Oekra\u00efnecrisis in 2022, reageren consumenten nu selectiever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shoppers houden in hun koopgedrag rekening met emotionele effici\u00ebntie: producten moeten \u2018de moeite waard\u2019 voelen. Ze optimaliseren hun aankopen binnen categorie\u00ebn: ze gaan meer op promotiejacht, wisselen tussen merken, kiezen voor kleinere verpakkingen. En ze evalueren de legitimiteit van prijsstijgingen: prijsverhogingen worden sneller geaccepteerd als de oorzaak begrijpelijk is, zoals bij prijsstijgingen voor energie, logistiek en grondstoffen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"561\" height=\"407\" src=\"https:\/\/www.retaildetail.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/yougov01.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-145588\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.retaildetail.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/yougov01.jpg 561w, https:\/\/www.retaildetail.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/yougov01-300x218.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 561px) 100vw, 561px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Verschillen per categorie<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoe consumenten reageren, verschilt per productcategorie. Categorie\u00ebn met een hoog energieverbruik zijn structureel kwetsbaar: in zuivel, diepvriesproducten, gekoelde maaltijden en dranken is de margedruk vrijwel onmiddellijk voelbaar. Energie-intensieve verpakkingsmaterialen vreten aan de marges in dranken, verzorgings- en huishoudproducten. Lange, gekoelde toeleveringsketens vergroten de onvoorspelbaarheid bij verse voeding en vlees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waar dat concreet toe leidt? In noodzakelijke categorie\u00ebn als basisproducten, zuivel of granen gaan shoppers op zoek naar alternatieven, wat de merken en de marges onder druk zet. In onder andere vlees, alcohol en huishoudproducten ziet YouGov <em>downtrading<\/em>, een lagere aankoopfrequentie, een grotere gevoeligheid voor promoties en een verschuiving naar huismerken. Categorie\u00ebn die als eerste wordt \u201copgeofferd\u201d, zijn verwennerij, niet-essenti\u00eble voedingsmiddelen en secundaire persoonlijke verzorging: deze producten verliezen snel volume en penetratie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maar opvallend genoeg dalen ook categorie\u00ebn met een lage inflatie, zoals vis, popcorn, wijn en badadditieven, aanzienlijk. Dat wijst erop dat shoppers hun winkelmandje in het algemeen strakker beheren. Dat geldt nog meer voor huishoudens die het financieel moeilijk hebben.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"481\" height=\"456\" src=\"https:\/\/www.retaildetail.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/yougov02.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-145589\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.retaildetail.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/yougov02.jpg 481w, https:\/\/www.retaildetail.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/yougov02-300x284.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Huismerk als slimme keuze<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Categorie\u00ebn onder hoge kostenstress verliezen volume, terwijl huismerken \u2013 inclusief premiumvarianten \u2013 verder terrein winnen. Uit een analyse van 13.200 merken in 12 EU-landen blijkt dat het aandeel private label sinds 2021 is gestegen met 3% in waarde en 2,7% in volume. Wat opvalt is dat ook premium private label groeit, wat erop duidt dat kiezen voor huismerken steeds meer als \u201cslimme keuze\u201d wordt gezien, niet alleen als goedkope noodoptie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consumenten reageren meer doordacht dan tijdens eerdere crises, maar blijven uiterst gevoelig voor prijsdruk, concludeert YouGov.Veel zal afhangen van de duur van de crisis. Bij langdurige druk op de portemonnee ontstaan twee patronen: financieel sterkere groepen blijven kopen, maar maken andere keuzes binnen een categorie, vermijden onnodige categorie\u00ebn en kiezen voor consistente \u201cgoed genoeg\u201d-opties. Meer kwetsbare gezinnen verleggen de prioriteiten, focussen strikt op basisbehoeften en schrappen aankopen in minder noodzakelijke
