Aan messcherpe voorwaarden.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!--break--><\/p>\n<h2>\nBanden aanhalen<\/h2>\n<p>\nEen meer dan opmerkelijke invitatie viel vorige week in de bus bij tientallen grote Amerikaanse foodfabrikanten zoals <strong>Mondelez<\/strong> en <strong>General Mills<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-03-30\/amazon-wants-cheerios-oreos-and-other-brands-to-bypass-wal-mart\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meldt Bloomberg<\/a>. Tijdens een driedaagse conventie in het Amazon hoofdkwartier in Seattle krijgen ze onder andere een uitgebreide rondleiding aangeboden en een speech van Jeff Wilke, worldwide consumer chief en vertrouweling van opperbaas Jeff Bezos.<\/p>\n<p>\nAmazon maakt geen geheim van zijn ambities. Het bedrijf wil de banden aanhalen met leidende FMCG-merken en hen overtuigen om hun businessmodel te herbekijken. In plaats van te blijven inzetten op handelsrelaties met de grote supermarktketens, zouden ze moeten beseffen dat e-commerce de toekomst is, zo luidt het.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Andere bevoorradingsketen<\/h2>\n<p>\nInteressant is het feit dat Amazon fabrikanten daarbij aanmoedigt om na te denken over een andere bevoorradingsketen. E\u00e9n waarbij producten niet langer ontworpen worden om op te vallen in het schap, maar wel zo stevig en duurzaam mogelijk, om in perfecte staat geleverd te worden. Waarbij fabrikanten niet langer denken in paletten maar wel in individuele verpakkingen. En waarbij ze de last mile toevertrouwen aan de goede zorgen van Amazon. Op die manier wordt Amazon nog beter in staat om consumenten effici\u00ebnt te beleveren binnen het uur, zodat ze zich de trip naar de supermarkt kunnen besparen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nDat de e-tailer grote inspanningen levert om foodmerken het hof te maken, is niet zo verwonderlijk. FMCG is veruit het grootste segment in retail, maar e-commerce heeft in de VS nog geen 2% van de foodmarkt weten in te palmen. En dat dus ondanks een reeks innovaties als Amazon Fresh, Amazon Dash, Amazon Echo, Amazon Go en <a href=\"https:\/\/www.retaildetail.be\/nl\/news\/food\/amazon-toont-zijn-toekomstige-pick-upwinkels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amazon Fresh Pick-Up<\/a>.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>FOMO<\/h2>\n<p>\nHeeft deze nieuwe move van Jeff Bezos dan wel kans op slagen? In elk geval lijkt het erop dat de fabrikanten ingaan op de vriendelijke uitnodiging. Niet dat ze hun nauwe relaties met <strong>Walmart<\/strong>, <strong>Kroger<\/strong> &amp; co meteen in gevaar zullen willen brengen. Maar ze zien ook wel dat de supermarktomzet stagneert en ze zijn bang om de boot te missen wanneer het winkelgedrag van de doorsnee consument ook voor voedingsaankopen zou beginnen kantelen. Een duidelijk gevalletje van FOMO dus, <em>fear of missing out.<\/em>\u00a0Per slot van rekening bedient Amazon zo\u2019n 300 miljoen shoppers en is het al gestart met <a href=\"https:\/\/www.retaildetail.be\/nl\/news\/food\/amazon-verleidt-foodies-met-wickedly-prime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">de ontwikkeling van eigen merken in voeding<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\nDe collega\u2019s supermarktketens zijn in elk geval op hun hoede. Meer zelfs, Walmart voert momenteel een verbeten concurrentiestrijd tegen Amazon. De nummer \u00e9\u00e9n voelt zich bedreigd. \u00a0Walmart investeert daarom miljoenen in overnames (Jet.com bijvoorbeeld, naast diverse kleine start-ups), in de ontwikkeling van apps en in het versneld uitbouwen van eigen e-commerce-activiteiten, zoals een click &amp; collect dienst.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Verwoestende prijsoorlog<\/h2>\n<p>\nMaar Walmart ontketent tegelijk ook een verwoestende prijzenslag. Vorige maand riep het zijn belangrijkste leveranciers bijeen voor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recode.net\/2017\/3\/30\/14831602\/amazon-walmart-cpg-grocery-price-war\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">een hartig woordje over inkoopcondities en verkoopprijzen<\/a>. Te vaak krijgt de retailer het moeilijk om zijn \u201c<em>Everyday Low Price<\/em>\u201d garantie waar te maken, omdat Amazon met een slim algoritme prijzen vergelijkt en verlaagt. Daarom eist Walmart betere inkoopvoorwaarden, terwijl ook Amazon niet aarzelt om merken uit de (virtuele) rekken te schoppen als ze het prijsspel niet meespelen (het overkwam zelfs <strong>Pampers<\/strong> recent).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nZo belanden merkfabrikanten dus tussen twee vuren. Ze dreigen het slachtoffer te worden van een niets ontziende oorlog tussen twee aartsrivalen. Een oorlog waar ze niets bij te winnen hebben. Want welk voordeel krijg je wanneer je de ene tussenpersoon (de alomtegenwoordige fysieke supermarkt) inruilt voor een andere (het almachtige internetplatform)? Precies. Bouw je als merk dan toch niet beter<a href=\"https:\/\/www.retaildetail.be\/nl\/news\/food\/daarom-willen-fmcg-merken-geen-retailer-worden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> je eigen rechtstreekse verkoopkanaal<\/a>?
