De toename van conflicten in de sector is geen toeval: de hele keten staat onder druk. FMCG-bedrijven zullen moeten investeren in data om te overleven.<\/p>\n<p><!--break--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Er zijn geen veilige havens<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cVaak hoor je mensen zeggen dat het met de digitalisering in food wel zal meevallen. Voeding is lokaal, argumenteren ze: mensen willen voeding blijven zien, voelen en ruiken. Toch\u00a0gaat de disruptie\u00a0er onvermijdelijk aankomen, net als eerder in de muziek, de video, de printmedia, de banken en de retail\u2026 Er zijn geen veilige havens meer. Als je eigen businessmodel niet verandert, zullen het je klanten wel zijn die je dwingen om mee te evolueren. Kijk maar naar wat er vandaag met de hypermarkten gebeurt, of met de komst van buitenlandse webshops.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dat zegt Nils van Dam, die na een foodcarri\u00e8re bij <strong>AB InBev<\/strong> en <strong>Unilever<\/strong> sinds kort bij Duval Union Consulting aan de slag is als global head food, beverage and food retail. \u201cDe omgeving bij Duval Union Consulting bevalt me zeer. Ik hou ervan om bedrijven te helpen om zich klaar te stomen voor de toekomst, zowel op strategisch als operationeel niveau. En die toekomst, die is vaak al hier. We zijn actief in verschillende sectoren, en sommige sectoren lopen nu eenmaal voorop in sommige domeinen. Dat is inspirerend. Ook de mix tussen jong talent en ervaring is boeiend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Wat als Amazon komt?<\/h2>\n<p>Bij wijze van eerste wapenfeit publiceerde Van Dam zopas een e-book waarin hij <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurefoodandbeverage.co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">negen trends schetst die de toekomst van voeding en dranken zullen bepalen<\/a>. Er dreigt niets minder dan een \u2018totale oorlog\u2019, meent hij: \u201cJe ziet vandaag al dat de grote retailers stilaan marktaandeel verliezen aan digitale nieuwkomers en aan kleinschalige initiatieven zoals Buren en Boeren bijvoorbeeld. Hun marges krimpen, hun kosten stijgen. Dus gaan ze het geld halen bij de boeren, de merken, de huismerkfabrikanten\u2026 de hele keten staat onder druk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hij verwijst naar de recente conflicten in de sector, waarbij merken worden geboycot om betere condities af te dwingen, en naar het experiment van <strong>Carrefour<\/strong>, dat in Frankrijk enkele winkels opende <a href=\"https:\/\/www.retaildetail.be\/nl\/news\/food\/een-supermarkt-zonder-merken-carrefour-test-het-uit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">met een dominant huismerkaanbod<\/a>. Ook de grote merken verliezen marktaandeel en populariteit. Ze moeten zich snel heruitvinden om te overleven, &#8216;business as usual&#8217; is voorbij. En dat is nog maar een begin: \u201cStel je eens voor dat <strong>Amazon <\/strong>naar de Benelux\u00a0zou komen? Ze zouden vrij snel tussen de 5 en de 10% marktaandeel kunnen halen, als je ziet wat ze vandaag al in het buitenland doen. Wat zou dat dan betekenen voor de traditionele retailers en hun leveranciers? Zeker als je weet dat Amazon geen winst hoeft te maken&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>De kracht van data<\/h2>\n<p>Is er een uitweg? \u201cMisschien wel. In de media zien we dat giganten als <strong>Google<\/strong>, <strong>Facebook<\/strong> en Amazon alle budgetten naar zich toe trekken. In een reactie trachten lokale media samen een blok te vormen om tegengewicht te bieden. Zou zo iets ook niet mogelijk zijn in FMCG? Een partnership tussen foodretailers en merkfabrikanten om weer een win-win te cre\u00ebren en de digitale spelers af te blokken?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Daarbij benadrukt Van Dam het belang van data, een terrein waar de digitale spelers een voorsprong hebben. Ook merken en retailers zullen databedrijven moeten worden om te concurreren: kennis is immers macht. \u201cIn principe is de kennis van merken en die van retailers complementair. Merken hebben een diepere kennis over hun categorie, vanuit marktonderzoek. Retailers hebben een bredere kijk op de shopper, op basis van transactionele data. Als beide partijen nu eens \u00e9cht de krachten zouden bundelen?\u201d<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meer weten?
