Hoe dat er concreet uitziet?<\/p>\n<p><!--break--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Focus op vers<\/h2>\n<p>De retailer opende afgelopen vrijdag in het centrum van Philadelphia de eerste vestiging van een nieuwe stadssupermarktformule onder de naam Giant Heirloom Market. De formule is het resultaat van <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aholddelhaize.com\/en\/media\/media-releases\/neighborhood-innovation-giant-heirloom-market-opens-in-philadelphia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meer dan een jaar van dialoog met lokale bewoners<\/a>, marktonderzoek en exploratie, om een \u200b\u200bsupermarktervaring te cre\u00ebren die aansluit bij de levensstijl van stadsbewoners. Inspiratie ging de retailer naar eigen zeggen ook halen in Nederland.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>De winkel is met zijn 883\u00a0m\u00b2 eerder klein naar Amerikaanse normen en legt de focus op vers: de afdeling groenten en fruit neemt zowat \u00e9\u00e9n derde van de winkelruimte in. Er is een permanente degustatiestand waar een chef op verzoek ter plaatse groenten en fruit bereidt. Ook heeft de winkel een instore eetruimte met broodjes, koffie en een sushi-counter. Giant verkent de mogelijkheden van cross-merchandising, met bijvoorbeeld specerijen naast de vis- en vleeskoelers, wenskaarten naast de bloemen of kookboeken bij de degustatiestand. De wijnafdeling heeft een koeler die je fles witte wijn in amper 90 seconden op de perfecte temperatuur brengt en kombucha (een hippe gefermenteerde theedrank) komt uit de tapkraan. Je kan ook zelf blends samenstellen van verschillende soorten olijfolie en azijn.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>E-commercehub<\/h2>\n<p>Er is verder een zeer uitgebreide plantaardige afdeling voor vegetari\u00ebrs en veganisten en de winkel maakt ook veel ruimte voor lokale producenten. Wat klanten niet in de winkel vinden, kunnen ze bovendien bestellen op tablets. Afrekenen gebeurt in de kassazone die 100% selfcheckout is. De <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phillymag.com\/be-well-philly\/2019\/01\/28\/shop-new-giant-heirloom-market\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eerste reacties van klanten<\/a> op blogs en sociale media klinken enthousiast. Giant is voor de meeste mensen een \u2018doorsnee\u2019 supermarkt, maar met deze formule lijkt de retailer te evolueren in de richting van meer <em>upscale<\/em> formules als <strong>Whole Foods<\/strong> of <strong>Sprouts Farmers Market<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>De stadsformule is overigens niet de enige innovatie die Ahold Delhaize doorvoert bij Giant Food Stores. Op een voormalige supermarktlocatie in Lancaster <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/giant-launches-giant-direct-powered-by-peapod-in-lancaster-300785011.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opent de retailer een e-commercehub<\/a>, Giant Direct, in samenwerking met zusterbedrijf en websupermarkt <strong>Peapod<\/strong>. Het is een vernieuwend concept dat een distributiecentrum voor leveringen combineert met een afhaalpunt (een \u2018drive\u2019, zeg maar). Bovendien is er een ruimte met tablets waar consumenten bestellingen kunnen plaatsen.
