Merken leverden wat marktaandeel in, ten gunste van de huismerken.<\/p>\n<p><!--break--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Grote bezorgdheid<\/h2>\n<p>De coronacrisis heeft de FMCG-markt flink door elkaar geschud, vertelde Davy Van Raemdonck van GfK dinsdag tijdens een webinar over de gevolgen van de pandemie op het consumptiegedrag. Voor de lockdown was de markt stabiel: er was geen volumegroei, enkel een lichte waardegroei als gevolg van inflatie. Wel bewoog er wat onder de oppervlakte: vooral huismerken en de harddiscounters kenden de afgelopen jaren groei. Covid-19 veroorzaakt echter een breuklijn.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Op de consument heeft het virus een grote emotionele impact: de consumentenpanelleden van GfK zijn erg bezorgd \u2013 vooral de ouderen en mensen uit lagere sociale klassen. Dat verklaart mede het ontstaan van hamstergedrag: in maart steeg de FMCG-omzet daardoor met zowat 400\u00a0miljoen euro. Of dat de komende tijd zo blijft? &#8220;De markt zal dit jaar zeker groeien, maar veel zal afhangen van de vraag of en wanneer de horeca weer opent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Minder op vrijdag en zaterdag<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;Het totale winkelmandje begon al te stijgen in weken\u00a09 en\u00a010, de grootste pieken zagen in week\u00a015, de paasweek. De gemiddelde besteding per winkeltrip ligt 30\u00a0\u00e0 35%\u00a0hoger dan normaal. De bezoekfrequentie daalt wel sinds week\u00a012: mensen winkelen dus minder vaak, maar kopen dan alles wat ze nodig hebben, wat resulteert in een beter gevulde kar.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Enkel ouderen kopen minder: wellicht mijden ze de winkel, omdat ze tot de risicogroep behoren. Gezinnen geven aan dat ze vaker boodschappen doen voor andere mensen: buren, vrienden\u2026 Er is duidelijk sprake van solidariteit. &#8220;We zagen dezelfde trends in Itali\u00eb.&#8221; Doordat meer mensen door de week thuis zitten, gaan ze ook op andere momenten winkelen: vrijdag en zaterdag verliezen aan belang, er is een grotere spreiding van de boodschappen doorheen de week.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>\u201cInvesteer in marketing\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>Ook de winkelkeuze verandert: buurtwinkels zijn de grote winnaars van de lockdown, shoppers beperken hun verplaatsingen. Doordat grenswinkelen niet meer mogelijk is, profiteren Belgische supermarkten. De omzet van ketens als <strong>Action<\/strong> en <strong>Kruidvat<\/strong>, die normaal ook veel FMCG-categorie\u00ebn verkopen maar nu verplicht gesloten zijn, verschuift richting harddiscounters. Hypermarkten verloren wat, net als in Frankrijk. Online boodschappen kenden slechts een beperkte groei omdat de besteldiensten kampten met grote logistieke problemen.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A-merken verloren 2% marktaandeel in het voordeel van de huismerken en de harddiscounters. &#8220;Recessie is doorgaans goed voor huismerken&#8221;, zegt Van Raemdonck. &#8220;Ook na de kredietcrisis van 2008 groeide private label significant in heel Europa, en daarna bleef de verkoop op dat hoge niveau. Uit vorige crisissen leren we dat er ook opportuniteiten zijn. Grote merken zijn veerkrachtiger, maar niet immuun voor het virus. B-merken zitten gekneld tussen de grote merken en de huismerken. Merken die in crisisperiodes hun investeringen verhogen in marketing en R&amp;D, kunnen marktaandeel pakken.
