In deze moeilijke periode zoeken consumenten afleiding in troostvoedsel.<\/p>\n<p><!--break--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Aanhoudende groei<\/h2>\n<p>De multinational, bekend van merken als LU en Milka, blikt terug op een organische omzetgroei van 6,4% in het eerste kwartaal van 2020. Die vooruitgang is volgens Belgisch topman Dirk Van de Put niet volledig toe te schrijven aan hamstergedrag wegens de coronacrisis, want de groei blijft aanhouden: &#8220;Je zou aanvankelijk denken dat consumenten hun voorraadkasten aan het vullen zijn, maar dit is nu al meer dan zes weken aan de gang. Dus tenzij die consumenten thuis een magazijn voor Oreos aan het bouwen zijn, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/04\/28\/surge-in-snack-sales-not-just-pantry-loading-mondelez-ceo-says-after-earnings-beat.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">denk ik toch dat ze ze opeten<\/a>,&#8221; zegt hij aan CNBC.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>De topman ziet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.just-food.com\/analysis\/mondelez-internationals-q1-2020-outlook-and-adapting-to-recession-four-things-to-learn_id143594.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drie belangrijke redenen waarom mensen nu meer snacken<\/a>. Ten eerste is de buitenhuisconsumptie nu naar thuis verschoven, en dat leidt tot meer snoepen. Ten tweede ziet hij dat consumenten wat meer experimenteren, door verschillende merken te kopen. Een derde reden is van meer emotionele aard: &#8220;Het delen van een snack met je gezin en je kinderen, nu iedereen thuis opgesloten zit, geeft een gevoel van normaliteit en van samenhorigheid, waardoor iedereen wat kalmeert.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>&#8220;Blijven investeren&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>Toch wil de multinational zich niet laten vastpinnen op vooruitzichten voor het financi\u00eble jaar: de onzekerheid is te groot. Er zijn immers ook negatieve factoren die meespelen: de lockdownmaatregelen veroorzaken een daling van de impulsaankopen in het gemakskanaal, de terugval van de reissector heeft een impact, de situatie in opkomende markten is onvoorspelbaar.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bovendien komt er een recessie aan. Categorie\u00ebn als koekjes en chocolade doorstonden periodes van recessie in het verleden vrij goed, maar dit is een uitzonderlijke situatie. Het bedrijf gaat daarom zijn &#8220;prijs- en verpakkingsarchitectuur&#8221; bijsturen (lees: de formaten aanpassen om aantrekkelijke prijspunten te kunnen aanbieden in elk kanaal) en het aantal referenties beperken. Tegelijk wijst Van de Put erop dat bedrijven die in recessietijden de investeringen terugschroeven, doorgaans ook marktaandeel verliezen.
