Vorig jaar bereikte de leverancier van maaltijdboxen al een derde minder verspilling, terwijl het bedrijf meewerkte aan een slimme houdbaarheidsindicator.<\/p>\n<p><!--break--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>5.000 ton overschot<\/h2>\n<p>In 2020 wist HelloFresh de hoeveelheid voedselverspilling naar eigen zeggen met een derde te verminderen, van 0,6 naar 0,4 gram per euro omzet. In totaal had het bedrijf nog bijna 5.000 ton voedseloverschot, vooral door geannuleerde bestellingen en ingredi\u00ebnten die na productie overbleven. Zo\u2019n 73% daarvan werd weliswaar weggeschonken, onder meer aan de voedselbanken.<\/p>\n<p>\nHet bedrijf streeft er bovendien naar de eerste CO2-neutrale maaltijdboxleverancier te worden. Vorig jaar werd de uitstoot in de distributiecentra aangepakt, die zo daalde van 9,3 naar 4,1 gram per euro omzet. HelloFresh stapte over naar duurzame energie, verbeterde de operationele effici\u00ebntie en investeerde in zonnepanelen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Verantwoordelijkheid groeit mee<\/h2>\n<p>De nog resterende directe uitstoot, zowel van de interne activiteiten als van de leveringen aan klanten is de leverancier, beginnen compenseren. Ook in 2021 wil HelloFresh de uitstoot blijven compenseren, maar daarnaast blijft het doel om de effectieve uitstoot in de distributiecentra tegen 2022 met 60% te verminderen.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cOnze verantwoordelijkheid voor de planeet is met de omvang van het bedrijf meegegroeid het afgelopen jaar, en daarom blijft onze duurzaamheidsagenda ambitieus\u201d, zegt Thomas Griesel, medeoprichter van HelloFresh. De doelstellingen van het bedrijf liggen in lijn met de Sustainable Development Goals van de VN.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Slimme houdbaarheidsindicator<\/h2>\n<p>Om verspilling tegen te gaan, startte HelloFresh een samenwerking met Wageningen University &amp; Research. De universiteit ontwikkelde een slimme houdbaarheidsindicator genaamd \u2018Keep-it\u2019, die de temperatuur van de opslagomgeving meet en zo de werkelijke houdbaarheid van het product berekent. Het Nederlandse Ministerie van Landbouw, Natuur en Voedselkwaliteit bestudeert het systeem momenteel, met de bedoeling om op termijn misschien de klassieke houdbaarheidslabels te vervangen.<\/p>\n<p>\nVerder wil HelloFresh de verpakkingen en haar toeleveringsketen nog verbeteren om voedselverspilling te verminderen. Tegen het eind van dit jaar moet namelijk 50% minder voedsel naar stortplaatsen gaan of verbrand worden, althans per euro omzet.
