Maar het is vechten tegen de bierkaai, meent biersommelier Sofie Vanrafelghem. \u201cHet kan ons pintje alleen maar lekkerder maken.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--break--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Speciaalbieren<\/h2>\n<p>Volgens Nicolas Degryse van brouwerij <strong>Omer Vander Ghinste<\/strong> krimpt de pilsmarkt al een aantal jaar met 3 \u00e0 4%. Dat het niet om een tijdelijke dip gaat, blijkt onder meer uit de bierbarometer van de Belgian Brewers, waarmee ze op geregelde tijdstippen peilen naar het favoriete bier van de Belgen. In 2005 gaf nog iets meer dan de helft van hen\u00a0de voorkeur aan pils. Bij de laatste peiling, in 2019, was dat aandeel geslonken tot slechts 23,6%.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>De dalende populariteit van de pils is voor een groot stuk te wijten aan de opkomst van de speciaalbieren. Daarnaast wordt er in totaliteit ook minder bier gedronken: het volume in Belgi\u00eb daalde tussen 1996 en 2019 van 10,3 miljoen hectoliter naar 7,03 miljoen hectoliter.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Gratis bier<\/h2>\n<p>Roel Dekelver van Delhaize <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nieuwsblad.be\/cnt\/dmf20210407_95599039\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">beaamt de trends<\/a> in Het Nieuwsblad. \u201cAls je alleen al maar naar onze bierrayon kijkt, zie je het. Vroeger voorzagen we er meer plaats voor, maar intussen winnen streek- en speciaalbieren daar letterlijk terrein. Want jaarlijks gaat de verkoop van streekbieren met zo\u2019n 30% omhoog, de pils blijft hangen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Grote brouwers als AB InBev en <strong>Alken-Maes<\/strong> trachten de verkoop van de pils intussen weer aan te zwengelen via reclamecampagnes en promoties. Dat uit zich bijvoorbeeld in een toename van de \u20181+1gratis\u2019-acties in de supermarkten. \u201cWanneer je al moet beginnen met iets gratis weg te geven, dan betekent dat wel iets\u201d, zegt biersommelier Sofie Vanrafelghem, die er van overtuigd is dat de brouwers een verloren strijd aangaan. De promo\u2019s voeden bovendien het vooroordeel dat pils een goedkoop bier is.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Genieten voorop<\/h2>\n<p>Voor de bierliefhebbers zelf ziet Vanrafelghem een positief kantje aan het verhaal. \u201cBrouwerijen hebben pils lang gezien als bier dat vooral diende om te zuipen.\u201d Volgens haar komt er langzaam maar zeker een mentaliteitswijziging, waarbij degusteren en genieten meer op de voorgrond treden.\u00a0\u201cDaarom dat je nu zeer veel nieuwe smaakvolle bieren ziet opkomen met een lager alcoholpercentage\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ook een aantal brouwers heeft de omslag intussen al gemaakt, meent de biersommelier. \u201c<strong>Palm<\/strong> profileert zich bijvoorbeeld met hun <strong>Estaminet<\/strong>, wat echt wel een lekkere kwaliteitspils is\u201d.
