Daardoor wordt de kloof tussen private label en de A-merken nog groter.<\/p>\n<p><!--break--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Strategische bocht<\/h2>\n<p>Standaard huismerken zijn nu gemiddeld 47% goedkoper dan A-merkproducten, berekende International Private Label Consult (IPLC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iplc-europe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/1021-IPLC-Research-Report-2021.pdf\">in een nieuw rapport<\/a>. In 2016 bedroeg die prijskloof slechts 33%. Het gemiddelde prijsverschil tussen <strong>Lidl<\/strong> en de nationale merken bleef nagenoeg gelijk (55% nu tegenover 54% in 2016) maar het prijsverschil tussen de huismerken van mainstream supermarktketens en die van Lidl verkleint: het bedraagt momenteel slechts 8%, gemeten over een groot aantal categorie\u00ebn. In 2016 bedroeg dat verschil nog 21%.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Er is duidelijk sprake van een strategiewijziging, zegt de private label expert. Supermarktketens hebben de verkooprijzen van hun eigen merken gevoelig verlaagd om de concurrentie met de harddiscounters aan te gaan. Aanvankelijk gingen supermarktketens de concurrentie met <strong>Aldi<\/strong> en Lidl aan door zelf eersteprijslijnen of zogenaamde vechtmerken of budgetmerken te introduceren: denk aan 365 bij <strong>Delhaize<\/strong>, AH Basic bij <strong>Albert Heijn<\/strong> of Everyday Selection bij <strong>Colruyt<\/strong>. Maar die strategie is weinig succesvol gebleken: consumenten ondervonden dat deze producten kwalitatief vaak minderwaardig waren. Nu gooien steeds meer retailers het roer om. Ze verkleinen hun aanbod eersteprijsproducten of ze stoppen er zelfs helemaal mee, en ze verlagen de prijzen van hun mainstream private label aanbod.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Aandeel private label zal stijgen<\/h2>\n<p>In haar rapport Mind the Gap analyseert IPLC de private label architectuur en prijsstrategie van 16 retailers in 8 landen. Wat blijkt? Bij retailers als Albert Heijn, Jumbo, Edeka, Rewe, Mercadona en Pingo Doce vind je vandaag geen eersteprijsmerk meer. Andere retailers kopi\u00ebren de strategie van Aldi en Lidl door discountmerken te introduceren die niet verwijzen naar het eigen merk, zoals Simpl bij Carrefour of Smart bij Esselunga. Delhaize herdoopte z\u2019n vechtmerk naar 365 essential en haalde er z\u2019n logo af. Colruyt verkleint het assortiment Everyday producten. Tesco introduceerde zelfs een hele reeks \u2018fancy\u2019 merken naar het voorbeeld van de harddiscounters.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>En tegelijk verlagen deze supermarktketens dus de prijzen van hun mainstream huismerken, om zo de discounters te beconcurreren met producten van een evenwaardige kwaliteit tegen scherpe prijzen. De inzet van private label om discount retailers te bevechten is opmerkelijk en zal naar de inschatting van IPLC op termijn leiden tot een verdere stijging van het volumeaandeel private label in veel Europese landen. Tegelijk vergroot het de prijskloof tussen huismerken en A-merken.
