Daardoor <strong>steeg de omzet van het eigen retailnet 2%<\/strong> tot 109 miljoen pond (zo&#8217;n 135,6 miljoen euro). Op vergelijkbare basis was er echter een omzetdaling met 3%. Ook de <strong>omzet uit de groothandelsactiviteiten ging erop achteruit: -6%<\/strong> tot 54,5 miljoen pond (circa 67,8 miljoen euro).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Onder meer als gevolg van duurder uitvallende winkelopeningen en -renovaties <strong>zakte ook de winst voor belastingen fors<\/strong>. Die ging van 26 miljoen pond (ruim 32,3 miljoen euro) naar 14 miljoen pond (of bijna 17,5 miljoen euro).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Het was een <strong>uitdagend jaar<\/strong>&#8220;, geeft waarnemend CEO Godfrey Davis toe. Davis volgde in maart <a href=\"fr\/belgie\/b-fashion\/item\/17946-ceo-van-mulberry-stapt-op\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bruno Guillon op die na een derde winstwaarschuwing moest opstappen<\/a> omdat zijn upgrading-strategie niet werkte. Davis blijft er echter van overtuigd &#8220;dat we kunnen bouwen op de solide basis van Mulberry en onze unieke positionering in de luxemarkt. <strong>Op de middellange termijn kunnen we de groei van Mulberry herstellen.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Al lijkt daar in het nieuwe boekjaar nog niet veel sprake van: <strong>de voorbije 10 weken zakte de verkoop in de eigen winkels met 9%<\/strong> en <strong>op vergelijkbare basis zelfs met 15%<\/strong>. En ook voor de groothandelsactiviteiten gaat de groep uit van een &#8220;<strong>achteruitgang met twee cijfers<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Terug naar het &#8220;betaalbare luxe&#8221;-segment<\/h2>\n<p>Om het tij bij Mulberry te keren, mikt Davis vooral op het <strong>vernieuwen van het productaanbod<\/strong>, waarvan de recente <strong>lancering van een goedkopere tassenlijn <\/strong>alvast getuigt. &#8220;We hebben geluisterd naar onze klanten en introduceren nu <strong>nieuwe producten van 500 tot 800 pond<\/strong>&#8220;, aldus Godfrey Davis. &#8220;De eerste stap was de <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vogue.co.uk\/news\/2014\/05\/28\/mulberry-tessie-bag-exclusive-interview-and-quotes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lancering van de Tessie collectie twee weken geleden<\/a>, die nu al populair blijkt te zijn.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tegelijk zet Davis de <strong>expansie van het eigen winkelnetwerk<\/strong> voort, maar dan wel tegen een iets gezapiger tempo: &#8220;Door de <strong>zware investering in de Parijse flagship store<\/strong>, die naar verwachting de deuren zal openen bij het begin van volgend fiscaal jaar, zullen we <strong>dit boekjaar minder nieuwe winkels openen<\/strong> en van de gelegenheid gebruik maken om de productiviteit van onze bestaande winkels te verbeteren&#8221;, aldus nog Godfrey
